2011 What She's Made Of Celebration Review

The 2011 "What She's Made Of" Celebration with philanthropist, Co-founder and President of the NoVo Foundation, Jennifer Buffett, was a tremendous success! More than 550 guests gathered at Kleinhans to hear Ms. Buffett and to learn more about the work she and her husband Peter are doing to change the lives of women across the globe.

We would like to thank our wonderful co-chairs - Lisa Walsh and Lisa Friedman and their fabulous committee. In addition, we would also like to thank our Honorary Chairs - Mary Jo and Peter Hunt. The evening included an anonymous donation of $5,000 by a guest in honor of her mother. The donor asked that the gift be used to match each donation of $100 or more up to that amount. Thank you to everyone who made a gift and who helped to bring the event total to more than $149,000 to support the WNY Women's Fund and our Pathways to Progress Initiatives.

Ms. Buffett spoke about the importance of supporting women and girls, and how "The Girl Effect" can make a difference in lives locally that can spread nationally and globally. Among various investments Ms. Buffett has guided at NoVo Foundation are a $30 million, five-year program with The International Rescue Committee to rebuild education systems and end violence against women and girls in post-conflict West Africa, and $100 million partnership with The NIKE Foundation to produce "The Girl Effect" which is focused on empowerment for adolescent girls in the developing world.

We would like to thank our emcees for the evening, Jodi Johnston, host of WGRZ Daybreak and Margaret Sullivan, editor for The Buffalo News. We would also like to thank our Presenting Sponsor BlueCross BlueShield, Platinum Sponsors: M&T Bank and The Buffalo News, and our Crystal Sponsors:  CTG, Delaware North Companies, Sue & John Hoskins,Hudson Advisor Services, MorganStanley SmithBarney, and R&P Oak Hill, as well as our many other sponsors and advertisers.  Thank you to everyone who donated their time and effort to make this event a success, including our media and in-kind sponsors, WGRZ Channel 2, Buffalo Spree, LAMAR Outdoor Advertising, Martin Group and RPM Entertainment.
